Are you really in control?

23 06 2008

As a pastor it is very easy to let what other people are going through to weigh heavy on you (even when what they are going through is self-inflicted). I listen to people almost everyday that have a problem with something. They pour out there heart and tell me everything that is wrong and we pray, I give them the best information that I know, they leave and it seems like they forget everything that we just talked about…

At that point, I seem to get all the way frustrated and I find myself blaming myself for not doing enough. When this happens, I am not in control of my own emotions, but the other person is (Man that is not good). You may be saying it is good to hurt when someone else hurts, but not to the point where it causes you to no longer be able to help others.

This is my question, “Who are you letting control you” ? Are you really being let by the Lord, or are you being led by other peoples emotions and issues?

This is the reality, if you are sick, you can not help others get well - period….

The Church…

29 01 2008

I find it very interesting that many of the conversations that I have been having with people indicate that they are frustrated with the state of the church. They wish that things were different, they wish that things word more innovative, they wish that things were less than traditional, but while they jump up and down about the need for change, they seem to point the finger with no solutions. For the most part, I can see where they are coming from, but I am making the choice to be a change agent instead of a complainer. The more time we spend talking about the problem, the less time we have to actually do something about the problemForums like this blog allow for the open expression of ideas and mutual collaboration that should lead towards answers. So, this is my question, what do all of you think that the church should look like? What changes need to be put in place in order for us to truly be the body of Christ? More importantly, what are you going to do in order to be a part of this change?

Is it Working?

25 01 2008

I have seen so many people say that they are doing everything that God is telling them to do, but they are not seeing any results. Normally this results in people who say that they are no longer going to come to church or no longer going to follow the Lord because it just does not work… But, what I have found, is that in the strong majority of these instances we are not doing everything that God has told us to do and therefore we can not expect to receive everything that God has told us to receive. Here is the question, does your life truly line up with what God has told YOU to do. I am not talking about being perfect, I am talking about walking in obedience! This is the year that we stop making excuses and we make the choice to do the will of God for real… We can not just talk about what needs to be done, let us move on to action!
