Fit No Stereotypes

10 08 2007

I am listing to Colin Powell right now at the Lead Conference and he just made a comment that to me we all need to take heed to. Colin said, “Fit No Stereotypes”! I think there are so many people in the body that have missed this reality. We are so busy trying to fit into one particular system or another, that we have lost track of our own unique identities as churches and as people. We do not always do things like everyone else, and that is OK, and we may not fit into the same “box” that those before us have fit in. Also, just because someone did something well, that does not mean that you have to do it the same way. What they did should be studied, but emulation of the method does not always work (This is not an absolute). The fact that it worked for them is a product of everything in them, and it may not work for you… Colin Powell is the man!

Carly Fiorina Quotes

10 08 2007

While I was looking over my notes from yesterday’s Lead Conference, three of the things that Carly Fiorina (former CEO of HP) said are worth putting on the blog.

1 - Prejudice is real and it comes from a base of fear, and you can not let the fear and prejudice of others become your problem or your burden.

2 - Don’t blame your culture for you not developing as a leader. You have to take your leadership into your own hands.

3 - Sometimes knowing the answer is not as important as asking the right question.

Now, these are the type of things that you get when we get outside of our church silos and listen to leaders in the marketplace. If we are going to affect the marketplace, then we must understand that we should learn from the experts in the marketplace…
